18 month checkup

Monday was Sylvia's 18 month checkup. For the most part everything was fine, except when the Dr. asked if she was sleeping OK. I responded with "for the most part, but we figured she was teething because she would wake up every once in a while". The Dr. politely responded with "It is likely she isn't sleeping as well because she has a double ear infection." As I am thinking to myself 'worst parents ever!'... Anyway, she has been on antibiotics since and loves them by the way.

The thing we always look forward to is the height and weight.

Weight - 20# 8 oz (3%)
Height - 31" (25%)

She did jump a bit in height this time, but is still following the lower limit on weight... No comment on who see takes after there!

After dinner tonight, Sylvia was running around the house with her alligator. She did have a few moments to stop and strike a pose...

She also wanted to do her best Liz impression:

Christmas on New Year's Day !??!??!

As a final episode to Christmas 2009, we headed up to Michael and Charleen's to celebrate Christmas on New Year's Day. Since they were kind enough to watch Sylvia the night prior, Jamie and I had a chance to grab a nice dinner and hang out with a friends (while they all chased after their children). It was very relaxing!

The grandkids (post present opening)

Sylvia sure loves her new toy broom.

Fill in the blank with any expression you feel

While the broom was a hit, the real winner may have been the snow shovel. Sylvia did a great job of 'shoveling' up the wrapping paper.

We of course ate way too much and opened way too many presents, but it was a nice relaxing day and a great ending to Christmas 2009. Thankfully we have about 350 more days to get ready from Christmas 2010!

Christmas at the Dunphy's

Catching up on some additional Christmas pictures.

As has been tradition for as long as I have known Jamie, Christmas morning is shared with Dan and Kelley. We generally arrive at their home to the smell of freshly baked cinnamon rolls and hot coffee. As our families continue to grow, timelines and gifts change, but we still share the morning together.

Adam, Shaylan, and Sylvia really enjoyed reading the nursery rhyme book.

Another picture to be filed under the "Awww" category was when Shaylan filled up her toy kitchen set with water from the refrigerator (the real one) and shared a glass of water with Sylvia. Suprisingly enough, very little water was spilled on the floor.

As noon was approaching, it was time to pack up all the bags and move the party to Jane and Ron's house for Xmas #2. While the camera was in the bag for most of the day, we did manage to snap a picture of Grandpa and the Great Grandchildren.

Homemade Ice Cream for Christmas!

Ever since I can remember, Christmas time at the farm also included making homemade ice cream. Since the farm was sold and the Brodd family Christmas has moved to my parents house, the tradition of making homemade ice cream has continued. It is tradition that everyone cranks away on the maker for a while. It seems that the ice cream tastes better the harder you work at it.

Brent is taking his turn while 'supervisors' watch over his every crank.

For those who don't know how a homemade ice cream maker works, basically you mix a bunch of eggs, sugar, cream, and vanilla into a metal mixing bowl. Inside that bowl is a paddle type mixer that attaches to the crank. The outside of the mixing bowl is surrounded with ice and rock salt. After about 15 minutes of cranking you have a yummy treat. The winner ends up cleaning the ice cream off the paddle. This year it was Sylvia and I who got the goods.

Diggin' in...

After spilling all over Daddy, we decided to eat in a more civilized manner.

Our apologies for the lack of posts. How about a new year's resolution to post more often?
